This is late news
In MSDN article dated 14 April 2009, Microsoft announced the official name of the latest SharePoint Server: Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010. Previously, this new product is known by its codename: Microsoft SharePoint Server “14”. This is following other Office “14” product family which will officially use the year code “2010”.
Different from the previous versions, this time SharePoint drop the word “Office”. Too bad, because the IT community already got accustomed with the MOSS abbreviation: Microsoft Office SharePoint Server. The problem is, Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 cannot be abbreviated MSS, because it’s already used by Microsoft Search Server
So, “SharePoint” is enough.
The Office “14” Wave will be lead by Exchange 2010 which will be available in second half 2009. The Beta Version can be downloaded now.
