Ellen Page is really an very good character actress. In Whip It, we can clearly understand emotions that she expressed thru her face. Complemented with a quite original story, the movie is good to watch. Other actors and actress also act good. Interestingly, even though Drew Barrymore handles both roles of actress and director, she is successful in positioning his character not as a central figure, but enough to be noticed.
The story line, in my opinion, is a bit difficult to understand in Indonesian context, how parents can just follow whatever the child want for her career in the world of extreme games. Perhaps in America and other western countries, everyone is able to try careers according to her will, because failure in one career doesn’t have huge impact to your new career. On the other hand, in Indonesia, we have to choose the best career from the beginning, because re-starting from zero is almost impossible to succeed.
This is the first digital movie that we watch. Interesting, because the screen is so clear and clean, without any spots or impurities that we often see in movies that still uses celluloid media. Thanks Blitz, for allowing us to watch digital movies!

Third movie of our Movie Marathon this week This sequel to “Alvin and the Chipmunks” is titled “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakqual”, or also known as “Alvin and the Chipmunks 2”.
To tell you the truth, this movie is not that interesting. Alvin, Theodore and Simon are still funny and cute, but frankly, there are nothing new in this movie, except for the Chipettes, the female chipmunks that also formed a singing group. The storyline still revolves around Alvin’s bad behavior, mayhem everywhere, and easy-to-guess-from-the-beginning ending.
Well, this movie is positioned for children, so the content is not heavy. For parents with kids that love the first movie, please bring your kids to this second movie. For the rest of us, skip this movie please. There’s still other more interesting movies

Amazing! This movie is really amazing in almost all aspects, especially from the technology point of view. Different from other 3D movies, Avatar really uses 3D in almost all scenes. Just try to remove your 3D glasses in any scenes, and you can’t watch anything In other 3D movies, they only put 3D in some scenes. On top of that, this movie uses extraordinary technology that makes the facial features of avatar very natural. With a good story line (although not extra ordinary), this is currently the best 3D movie that we ever watched.
In short: Highly Recommended!
For more detailed explanation about technology used by this movie, you can read it at Avatar’s Wikipedia article.

Starting our Movie Marathon this week , we watched Sherlock Holmes at Blitzmegaplex Teraskota, BSD. This is a very interesting movie, especially in the portrayal of Sherlock Holmes that differs from previous books or movies. If in those books and movies Sherlock Holmes is portrayed as a detective with deep thoughts, analysis and calculations, this movie portrayed him as having an advanced martial arts skills. Of course, on top of his amazing analysis and brain power.
Robert Downey Jr. acts impressively in this movie, and he is really the right person to play Sherlock Holmes in this movie context. Robert Downey Jr. is always fit to portray a bad boy character, with acts that require matching facial expression. That’s why he is also fit the role of Iron Man. Jude Law also acts impressively as Dr. Watson. Other actors/actresses doesn’t really show anything special.
It seems that this movie’s objective is to re-introduce Sherlock Holmes character, while also act as the introduction to Sherlock Holmes archenemy, Prof. Moriarty.
In general, this movie is really good to watch, or even to watch a second time This movie fits all kind of moviegoers: artistic movie lovers, martial arts lovers, or even casual moviegoers. Highly recommended!

We celebrate Irving’s birthday on 22 November together with Joan’s 78th monthly birthday with 22 heart-shaped cupcakes, half of them in rose red and the other half with pink butterflies, with the words “MY GREATEST BLESSINGS FROM ABOVE”. Thank You Lord for the 2 most beautiful blessings that You have given, which have thought me the meaning of true and genuine love, based on Fear of God. Let Jesus Christ our Lord always be part of this family, so this wonderful November can be a celebration of love for the three of us. We also invited our brothers and sisters, and our nephews and nices to pray and dine together.
It’s so funny to see 2 chubby Hutagalung blowing the birthday candles together A true happiness that was created by God for me, as mom and a wife.

Lately, we barely update Joan’s blog with her stories. As we start to move to Bintaro, we have to adapt with many things. For Joan, moving to Bintaro means breathing easily, which makes her more comfortable. Although, compare with Apartement, living in a house like at Bintaro, made Joan expose to new insects like mosquitos, flies, and other insets that easily make her body dizzy. We believe that it’s a process of adaptation. We only mask her with insect repellant baby products or minimize mosquito exposure.
As implied by her latest EEG, Joan shows more seizures. Although, if we really analyze her seizure, it causes by a sudden kisses, sudden movement of body while we carry her or loud noises. We pray that we we concluded is correct and that all the “seizures reaction” is only because it’s triggered by that sudden stimulus. “Please help Joan to control her reflect God”.
While she is at Bintaro, Joan keeps doing her therapy intensively. We provided transport for her therapist to be able to come to our house for the therapy. And we really thanks God that all is made possible, even more, the therapist give Joan a very good conclusion (PERFECT) in all of her reports. Thanks only to God.
At Bintaro, we have more choices to bring Joan to new places which are not as big and as crowd as malls in center of Jakarta. Joan seems more comfortable and relax when we take here to these places. We just hope that Joan can go out more often, that she is happy whenever we bring her out.
Last week, Joan attended her cousin birthday party. She seems very happy, lots of smile and shows a very good reaction hearing noises from those children, their screaming, their yelling. “Oh Joan… we wishes that you will be able to go to school.” We thought maybe in the past we just to worry that to bring Joan expose to that kind of situation will not fit her. We are wrong, Joan likes to be expose to the usual situation like most children exposed to. Yeah… for us this is a learning process to know what is good for our little Joan. We have to be stronger not to be bothered by what those other little children questions to us “what happen with her, why is she like that, etc….” We believe that God will show us the way to always make Joan happy.
Now Joan has grown up, and we believe, like in the past, that Joan will always bring a blessings to our family. She was God’s angel, and all the glory will always be to God. We hope that all of you will always pray for Joan.
GBU.

Oh please! That’s the word that I kept saying when watching this movie. I assume that a lot of people already know the main theme of 2012 the movie, even before wathing it. Yes, it is about the end of the world. In summary, just like predicted by the Mayans a thousand years ago, the world will end in the year 2012, or to be exact, December 12th 2012.
Just like other doomsday movies, we can safely assume that this movie will use a lot of special effects, both sound effects and visual effects. And you are correct, you will not be disappointed by the abundant special effects in this movie. The special effects is so much, that I have to draw a conclusion that this movie is a special effect movie about doomsday, and not a doomsday movie with special effects What’s the difference? Well, of course there is, because putting the special effects aside, then this movie is really nothing.
For those of you that hope there will be an interesting story with the doomsday in the background, you will be disappointed. Just like us. Well, there is a “side” story in this movie about a family trying to survive, plus a “main” story about humankind survival. But believe me, the stories have a lot of impossibilities, even more impossible than the doomsday theme itself (which is nonsense enough).
I can give you a few examples. Not much, not to annoy you when you’re watching the movie (if you still decide to watch). First, you will see a book writer cum limousine driver so strong and heroic that he become the central point of his family survival and the survival of 100,000 US citizens in a ship. With all due respect to book writers and limousine drivers, but I give more trust to a technician in my car service center to handle the hydraulics of a giant door that got stuck because of cables and some technical tools. Second, the runaway scene with a limousine through a collapsing city. Third, a runaway scene with a small plane from a collapsing city AND a hot air stream from a mega-volcano. Fourth, a runaway scene with a Russian cargo plane, also from a collapsing city AND a hot air stream from a mega-volcano. See the pattern here? The core theme of this movie is about “running away”. Fifth, the “ark” allocation that put Russia and China in the same ship, while US in the other ship. In the rank of world’s most populous countries, they put the most populous (China) and the ninth (Russia) in one ship, with the third in one other ship, while we missed India (the second) and Indonesia (the fourth)? I put more credit on lumping all European countries in the same ship
So, the conclusion: if you only want to see special effects, or if you’re just simply curious about this movie, then yes, please watch it. But if you are looking for a movie with an interesting story, skip this one. You’ve been warned!
