 Paint.NET

TechnologyDo you need an image editor application more advanced than the default Paint in Windows, but not necessarily as advanced (and as expensive) as Photoshop? Maybe you can try Paint.NET, which give the same interface as Paint, but with additional advanced features like transparency, layering, etc. I often use it for adding transparency to an image, for example, getting an image from Internet with white background, but I want to put it into a Powerpoint with a blue background. I just open the image with Paint.NET, use the Magic Wand tool to select all white backgrounds, delete to become transparent, and save as PNG (which support transparency). Done =)

Other advanced features includes layering (for those familiar with Photoshop), effects (to give effects to an image, like soften, etc.) and of course, support for most image file format.

You can get Paint.NET for free from their website. Enjoy!

 Mojave Experiment

TechnologyThis is an interesting experiment, on how someone's perception of a product can defeat logic and ratio. With a lot of negative news about Vista, a lot of people don't event want to try this product. In this experiment, a series of interviews are conducted to people who have never used Vista. Almost all give negative comments and don't want to try the product, because of the negative perception that they have.

After that, they were introduced to a fantasy product, Microsoft Mojave, which is said to be the next generation of Windows after Vista. They were let to try it themselves. They give positive comments, even giving praises on the features. They are really surprised when they were told that the product is actually Vista =)

You can see for yourself in Mojave Experiment website.

Perception change about Microsoft, Google, Apple and Linux

TechnologyAn interesting article about how public perception about Microsoft, Google, Apple and Linux are slowly shifting. The article talks about specific events, but the author argues that these things are the beginnings of a more fundamental shift. For example, how Google removed some benefit from its employee to reduce cost, which changes the perception of Google as the best place to work. Apple also shown as taking advantage from consumers because they increase price in the middle of a recession. Or how Richard Stallman gave negative effect to Linux, just when Microsoft is gaining momentum with its collaboration with Open Source community. On top of that, Microsoft also try to cut the price of its products by bundling, special pricing in third world countries, etc.

Well, at the very least, these things can be a begninning of a shift in public perception on those companies, which will be very interesting to monitor.

 Kompas e-Paper

TechnologyKompas baru saja meluncurkan layanan terbarunya berupa Kompas e-Paper.

Jadi, silahkan mencoba!
